R.STAHL automation equipment on order for Wallop Defence Systems
R.STAHL has been chosen as the preferred supplier for automation equipment to Wallop Defence Systems Limited (WDSL).
Wallop Defence Systems, a Division of Esterline Technologies, has 60 years of experience and expertise in defence pyrotechnics. The company has been engaged in research, development and production of a wide range of advanced pyrotechnic devices for use in land-based, maritime and airborne applications of armed forces across the world.
The requirement for R.STAHL product is driven by the moral requirement to reduce the risks that operators face to a level that is as low as reasonably practicable. There are currently no individual standards or directives for the certification of equipment to be used specifically with explosives.
The project consists of EX d monitors, Open HMI PC’s and 24 compact colour cameras, all supplied from the extensive range at R.STAHL. In addition, R. STAHL have been able to supply a selection of cables and terminal boxes.
The R.STAHL EC-710-090 Ex is the world’s smallest EX camera; a product that we are very pleased to have within our range which has been well received throughout the industry. With a diameter of only 55mm and weighing just 435grams, the product is chemical, shock and vibration resistant, rated at IP68.
Similarly, the user-friendly Open HMI is used in a range of applications. With no fan or rotating parts, the robust Panel PC can be installed in hazardous areas worldwide and connected directly to the EC-710-090 where necessary.
As specialists in the design and manufacture of electrical equipment for hazardous areas, R.STAHL remained a favourable option. Project requirements included that all products needed to be ATEX certified for both gas and dust environments. Being experts in ATEX solutions, R.STAHL were able to ensure that WDSL were confident with the products and our knowledge and expertise of the product range.
Phil Bolton, Systems Project Manager for WDSL based in Hampshire says “I have come across R. STAHL electrical components before, as have the electricians here at WDSL and we are all of the opinion that the variety of products provided are of very good quality.”
R.STAHL were also selected as “my initial contact with the sales representatives resulted in a quick efficient response, with even a visit from the mobile showroom (STAHLtrailer). A team of representatives were on hand to demonstrate various items and explain any technical questions to a number of WDSL staff, including some of the directors, which certainly impressed us.”
Following the successful turnaround of production so far, it is expected that WDSL will “where possible, standardise and only use R STAHL electrical components for all future installations or refurbishments."
Future plans could see further orders from WDSL for monitors, plugs and sockets and lighting equipment. |
Being a global manufacturer of electrical equipment for hazardous areas, R.STAHL can offer specialised solutions for switchgear, lighting, automation and system solutions. Products from the range can be customised where necessary and include a 12 month RTB warranty as standard.
